John Mason Peck

On this site, from 1822 until his death in 1858, lived John Mason Peck, a pioneer baptist preacher, author and educator. Here, in 1827, he founded Rock Spring Seminary. In 1831 the seminary was removed to Alton, where it later became Shurtleff College.
