The Liberty Bell of the West Chapter, Illinois Society, NSDAR will erect a monument in Chester, Illinois at a site between the Randolph County Court House and the Randolph County Museum. The monument will honor Randolph County's patriots of the American Revolution while recognizing the county's heritage as the birthplace of Illinois. It will be made of French Creek Granite and include the national insignia of the DAR, text signifying Randolph County as "where Illinois began," part of the original proclamation from King Louis XV of France giving the Liberty Bell of the West to the people of the Illinois Country, and Roscoe Misselhorn's rendition of the bell. The dedication of the monument will coincide with the observance of the Illinois Bicentennial.
