On Monday, December 3, which marks our state's 200th anniversary, the McDonough County Historical Society will have a special Bicentennial meeting at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, a mile east of the square in in Macomb, at 7:00. The featured speaker will be Illinois historian John Hallwas, who will discuss the life and work of newspaperman, historian, Decoration Day advocate, and Macomb community activist W. H. Hainline (1841-1924). That meeting, open to the public, will also feature the release of a collection of Hainline's writings, Memory and Community: The Life and Writings of W.H. Hainline
, edited by Hallwas and Western Illinois University archivist Kathy Nichols.
