The Gettysburg Address: 272 Words for the Ages (Facebook LIVE! Event)
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum
2020 has been a year unlike any other—filled with political divisiveness, social justice protests, and major economic turndowns, all under the cloud of a worldwide pandemic. 157 years ago, during another critical point in our nation’s history, President Lincoln gave a short address at the dedication of the Gettysburg National Cemetery that has since become one of the greatest and most influential statements of American national purpose.
Join ALPLM Lincoln Historian Dr. Christian McWhirter and ALPLM Education Director Heather Nice for a special Facebook LIVE! event on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 7 p.m. Central Time on the ALPLM Facebook page. Heather and Christian will be in the museum’s Gettysburg Mural Room to revisit those 272 words. They’ll take a closer look at Lincoln's iconic speech and the museum's mural depicting its inspiration and delivery. Heather will also share the ALPLM's Teaching the Gettysburg Address teaching guide some for educators. Plus, they'll answer your questions about America's most famous political speech.
