On December 3, 2018, we will celebrate Illinois’ 200th birthday with a gala party at the United Center in Chicago.

For 200 years Illinoisans have made exceptional contributions to their communities, to the State, to the country and to society. Throughout 2018, municipalities across the state, communities, colleges, museums, organizations and many others will share those names and stories. The Bicentennial Birthday Gala will be the culmination of a yearlong engagement to commemorate and archive the Illinois Bicentennial Hall of Fame.

Under the auspices of the Morgan County Historical Society (MCHS), Prairieland Chautauqua will produce Illinois: A Bicentennial Celebration. This event consists of twelve, independent, hour-long programs presented over the Labor Day weekend, 2018, reflecting on 200 years of Illinois history. This event is free and open to the public.

The Liberty Bell of the West Chapter, Illinois Society, NSDAR will erect a monument in Chester, Illinois at a site between the Randolph County Court House and the Randolph County Museum. The monument will honor Randolph County's patriots of the American Revolution while recognizing the county's heritage as the birthplace of Illinois. The dedication of the monument will coincide with the observance of the Illinois Bicentennial.

Decatur Quilters Guild Celebrates Illinois Bicentennial

The 37th Quilt Show sponsored by the Decatur Quilters Guild will be held at the Decatur Civic Center on June 29-30, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The featured speaker both days will be Suzi Perron, author of Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement. Over 200 quilts from Illinois quilting artists will be on display with a special display of past quilts by guild members. Many vendors featuring fiber arts for quilting enthusiasts will be present.
