Call for Papers

The Illinois State Historical Society announces a call for papers for its 32nd annual Illinois History Symposium, scheduled to be held at Embassy Suites Hotel in East Peoria. The theme for the symposium is "Contested Lands: 1763-1840."

The Symposium will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, with a focus on the years leading up to and immediately after the War of 1812 as played out in the old Northwest Territory.

Scholarly papers, panels, PowerPoint presentations, educational workshops for teachers, and multi-media programs will be considered, as well as non-traditional presentations will be given.

Professional and amateur historians, as well as graduate students, teachers, and independent researchers are encouraged to submit one-page proposals along with a curriculum vitae not later than October 15, 2011.

Proposals on all aspects of Illinois history will be considered, though preference will be given to those with specific ties to the symposium theme. All proposals will be reviewed by the 2012 Illinois History Symposium Committee; presenters will be notified of their acceptance by November 1.
