2018 Illinois History Symposium on Statehood Day in Springfield
ISHS and University of Illinois Springfield Alumni SAGE Society
The Illinois State Historical Society and the University of Illinois Springfield Alumni SAGE Society will host an all-day symposium on Illinois history, December 3, 2018, at the new UIS Student Union. The day-long event includes the SAGE Society's "Lunch and Learn" program, which will focus on immigration and the African diaspora.

Michael Wiant, Ph.D., former Head of Anthropology at the Illinois State Museum and Director of Dickson Mounds Museum, will present Bicentennial Primer: Ten Things Every Immigrant Should Know about the First Illinoisans
10:30 a.m. –
Bill Kemp, Librarian and Archivist of the McLean County Museum of History, will present Lincoln's Lost Speech
, examining the fiery speech on territorial expansion of slavery into the western territories that set the stage for Lincoln's rise to the Presidency.

The ISHS Bicentennial Illinois History Symposium is free to the public (there is a $23 fee for the luncheon, but non-dining attendees can hear the program for free after the lunch), but reservations are required.
