Dedication of the Hoxie Farm/Wampum Lake Historical Marker

The Village of Thornton Historical Society has invited the public to the dedication of the Illinois State Historical Society historical marker honoring the Indigenous Peoples and the Hoxie Farm on September 28, 2019, at 10:00am. The marker is located at Wampum Lake, Thorn Creek Division, (entrance Thornton-Lansing Rd, west of IL-394), Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Thornton, Illinois.

Speakers from the Forest Preserve District and the Illinois State Historical Society will be part of the dedication, and Archaeologist Doug Jackson will be on hand with a display of artifacts. Artifacts may also be seen at the Thornton Public Library during the month of September.

The ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

The Thornton Historical Society Museum is located at 114 N. Hunter Street in Thornton and is open on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00pm, May–October; and the first and third Saturdays January–April, also from 1:00-3:00pm.
