Welcome to the Illinois State Historical Sociey's online store. Over the years the Society has accumulated many books and since it is neither a research center nor a lending library, we have created this Store to make these books available for purchase. Most are single title items in like new condition. In addition to books, we are also offering for sale back issues of the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society and Illinois Heritage, art work, and stationery. All proceeds from these sales will be used to support the Illinois State Historical Society.

Enter code ISHS2022 at checkout to save 20%.

Spinning through Clouds: Tales from an Early Hoosier Aviator
Spinning through Clouds: Tales from an Early Hoosier Aviator

Max Knight began flying in 1936 at the age of ten. At his father's airport in Lynn, Indiana, he met many of the state's aviation pioneers, learning to fly from some of them. He flew in many planes, from Piper Cubs to the Tin Goose, the first transcontinental passenger plane. Suitable for young readers and adults, the book also tells national stories from the early period of aviation, introducing air-racing champions such as Roscoe Turner and Jacqueline Cochran as well as better-known pilots such as Amelia Earhart and Howard Hughes.
