Abe Lincoln in Illinois opens at the Beaumont Theater in New York City for 40 performances. Robert Sherwood's script first played on Broadway in the 1930s and the film version directed by John Cromwell was released in 1940. Raymond Massey's performance was well-received by the critics, but the film flopped at the box office.

Since 1934, the Illinois State Historical Society has erected more than 500 historical markers statewide. Subjects of historical significance to Illinois are co-sponsored by local organizations and supporters. The Illinois State Historical Society coordinates the placement and management of historical markers throughout the state.

The Illinois State Historical Society has worked hard to open an online store which features literature and hard-goods which are related to Illinois. These are often hard to find or limited run items.

Calftown Christmas Party

The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County invites everyone to the Calftown Christmas Party at the History Museum on the Square. Recipes from the Calftown Cookbook will be served as party-goers enjoy holiday music and the decorations in the Museum. There will be glass ornament making in the Stained Glass Gallery. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own glass holiday ornaments with Becky Butler of The Budding Artist art school, who will teach how to make fused glass Christmas tree ornaments using a solid base of glass, then decorating them with smaller glass chunks and glass frit. Pianist Ned Behrensmeyer will provide music for the party which will also feature the lighting of the Newcomb Hotel Christmas Tree.

The event, including the glass ornament class, is free and open to the public so please join us for this fun and festive afternoon!!
