2019 Federation of Genealogical Societies Family History Conference

The Federation of Genealogical Societies will host its annual FGS Family History Conference August 21-24, 2019, at the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel and Conference Center in Washington, DC.

FGS conferences are open to everyone with an interest in family history. Attendees have a varying range of experience from those just beginning their journey into the past to advanced researchers with many years of experience, and every skill level in between.

The FGS 2019 conference will feature:

  • a newly expanded full four-day conference with a variety of topics presented by many of the nation's top family history professionals and local experts from Washington,  DC-area repositories including the National Archives, Library of Congress, DAR Library, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and more;
  • a continued emphasis on FGS's commitment to its member societies with multiple days of sessions focused on society management;
  • an exhibit hall filled with companies and organizations providing products and services to the genealogical community;
  • activities offering opportunities for networking with others who share a passion for family history.

Pre-conference guided research sessions feature at-home webinar learning before traveling to Washington, DC, an online group meeting to help prepare attendees for research, and trips to the National Archives, Library of Congress, or DAR Library on Tuesday. Librarians' Day also will be held at the Library of Congress on Tuesday.

The opening session kicks off the conference on Wednesday with a special message by D. Joshua Taylor, former co-host of Genealogy Roadshow and former president of FGS. A Parade of American Family History then leads attendees to the grand opening of the Exhibit Hall. Multiple tracks of interest to any researcher begin Wednesday morning and continue throughout the conference.

The 2019 FGS conference promises to be a learning experience and a fun-filled week.
