For over 70 years, the Union Station depot in downtown Springfield served rail passengers coming in and out of Springfield. Learn about the railroads and the trains that served the Capital City. Springfield's Railroads – From the Time of Lincoln to the Present, the latest offering in the Illinois History Forum series, gives railfans and local history fans alike an historical overview of the railroads existing at the time of Lincoln along with Lincoln's relationship with railroads, as well the railroads served by Union Station during its over 70 years as an active rail passenger station, and a brief history of railroads currently operating in the Capitol City.
