Walk Edgewater: Lakewood Balmoral Historic District

Edgewater Historical Society

Enjoy views of the historic buildings of Edgewater in our own unique outdoor museum. Edgewater has three historic districts, designated by the U.S. Department of the Interior, and many blocks filled with historic homes.

Designated in 1999, Lakewood Balmoral Historic District displays many of Edgewater’s finest architectural gems in residential housing. Many are locally important landmarks on the Chicago Historic Resources survey of 1986. The walk is about one mile long. It begins and ends at North Shore Baptist Church, 5244 N. Lakewood Avenue. Your tour guide is a knowledgeable person who grew up in Lakewood Balmoral.

The tour is limited to 10 persons. Our tour guide, who will have microphones, will lead you through the tour, and share with you our researched brochure. Everyone must wear a face mask and keep social distancing. The fee is $15, which supports the Edgewater Historical Society Museum.

Register here.
