Beyond Bumper Stickers (Part Two): Facebook LIVE! Event

Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum

A wide array of both traditional and unique promotional items – from bumper stickers, yard signs and buttons to just about anything you can stamp a candidate’s name on – have been utilized by politicians to keep their name in front of voters at election time. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum collection contains many such items with political campaign memorabilia from more than just Abraham Lincoln’s campaigns. We’ve got memorabilia from Ulysses S. Grant’s run for the top office and the many campaigns of the influential Stevenson family.

Please join us for a Facebook LIVE! event on Thursday, October 29 at 7 p.m. Central Time from inside our new Stevenson Room. ALPLM Illinois and Midwest Studies Historian Dr. Jacob K. Friefeld will welcome special guests, Dr. Kenneth Owen from the University of Illinois-Springfield and Dave Joens, a noted local collector of political campaign memorabilia. It will be a night of virtual show and tell with Dr. Owen sharing some items from previous UIS “History Harvest” events and we’ll show some photos of the unique campaign items our followers have sent us the past couple of weeks. Plus, Mr. Joens will highlight several items from his collection and offer advice and tips for others looking to start a collection of their own.

To watch this special Facebook LIVE! event on the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Facebook page, just go to Facebook and open our page at the appointed time and scroll to the post highlighting the live event. Once you’re there, simply click on the image and watch the live video stream.
