Life and Legacy of Virginia Eifert

The life and legacy of Virginia Eifert will the topic of the Sangamon County Historical Society’s video program on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Virginia Eifert (1911-1966) was a prolific naturalist, author, artist and Springfield native who worked at the Illinois State Museum where she created, wrote and edited The Living Museum magazine as well as publications about flowers, birds, animals, rivers, people and history.
Presenters will include John Hallwas, her son Larry Eifert, and Illinois State Museum staff. In addition to biographical information, the presenters will highlight collections related to Eifert at Western Illinois University and the Illinois State Museum.
The Society has partnered with the Academy of Lifelong Learning’s Big Read Sangamon County. Big Read is a national program made available by the National Endowment for the Arts.
