2021 Lincoln Legacy Workshop: Lincoln, Antislavery, and Antiracism
University of Illinois at Springfield Center for Lincoln Studies
The University of Illinois at Springfield’s Center for Lincoln Studies invites K-12 social studies educators to the first annual Lincoln Legacy Lecture workshop, focusing on Lincoln, Antislavery, and Antiracism. The Center invites up to twenty K-12 social studies educators and preservice educators to participate in up to five sessions of a day-long professional development event at the UIS campus. The first two sessions will be exclusively for teachers. The three subsequent sessions will be for both teachers and the general public. In the teaching sessions, master teachers and a Lincoln scholar will present materials and perspectives on Lincoln, race, and slavery; the participants will then collaborate to develop their own lesson on Lincoln, race, and slavery. In the last three sessions, the subjects of Lincoln, race, and slavery will be probed further using film, living history, and recent, pathbreaking scholarship.
