​There was John Hancock, the “Mysterious Bard of Sangamo,” a prolific and accomplished poet from the land of King Arthur who roamed the Sangamo Country from 1831-1847.

In this 55-minute play produced by the ISHS, Hancock comes to life in the historic Elijah Iles home in Springfield and recites several of his poems about life in early Sangamon County. Chicago actor Victor Holstein delivers an impressive performance as Hancock in this award-winning play by distinguished Illinois author John Hallwas.
