The 24th Annual Conference on Illinois History

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in partnership with the Illinois State Historical Society will host the 24th Annual Conference on Illinois History on Thursday, October 6, and Friday, October 7, 2022. The Conference is open to researchers, educators, and those generally interested in Illinois history.

Professor Mirelsie Velázquez from the University of Oklahoma and Professor Michael E. Woods from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville will present at the conference luncheons. On Thursday, Velázquez’s presentation will offer a historical reading of how the Puerto Rican community in Chicago acknowledged and confronted the intricate ways their claim to space in the city was linked to schooling inequalities and challenges. On Friday, Woods will grapple with Stephen Douglas in the Land of Lincoln and discuss the political geography of antebellum Illinois. On Thursday evening, conference goers are invited to attend a tour of historic Edwards Place. For the full conference program and information on registration visit bit.ly/illinois-history or contact Dr. Jacob Friefeld at Jacob.Friefeld@illinois.gov or (217) 558-0128.
