Ulysses S. Grant comes to Quincy

Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, Tri-States Civil War Round Table, and O-Donnell-Cookson Celebration of Life Home

Ulysses S. Grant portrayer Dr. Curt Fields will appear in Quincy on February 27. The program will be held at the O’Donnell-Cookson Celebration of Life Home at 1435 State Street and is free and open to the public. Reservations must be made, however, as seating is limited.

The event will include cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, live entertainment, wine pull, and the Annual Awards presentation recognizing indivuals, groups, and oranizations that have furthered the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Illinois history.

There was only one thing luring American war planners to invade the tiny island of Iwo Jima in February 1945. The island of black volcanic sand was little more than a dot in the midst of the vast Pacific Ocean, but it was only 763 miles from Tokyo, and thus was an ideal spot to land crippled B-29s returning from the Japanese mainland on their way to Tinian Island.
