The 1908 Springfield Race Riot has been a more common topic of conversation in recent years with excavations, discoveries and national discussions about race in our communities. However, most Illinoisans didn’t know it had occurred for the better part of a century, and it was rarely discussed in public forums. Join historian Doris J. Bailey for a discussion of why this pivotal event was a hidden history for so long and learn about the brave activism and research that finally broke the silence.

A message from Life Director Doris Kearns Goodwin

On the 213th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth, it is my pleasure to join the Foundation in their ongoing mission to fortify the story and legacy of our 16th President, who sought to heal divisions and summon the citizenry to a sense of common purpose.

Toward that goal, I am excited to share with you news of “Abraham Lincoln,” a new documentary that I have executive produced with RadicalMedia for The HISTORY Channel which premieres across three consecutive nights Presidents’ Day Weekend, beginning Sunday, February 20, and continuing Monday, February 21 and Tuesday, February 22 at 8PM ET/PT.
