The DuPage County Historical Museum’s current exhibit, 1917: Catalyst for the Modern Era, explores the world as it appeared 100 years ago. It describes American participation in WWI and changes in gender roles, clothing, technology, and medicine. The loss from the war and disease in the wake of the war are depicted along with other changes in American life that set the stage for a modern era.

The exhibit will be on view until July 30, 2018.

Art on the Farm: A Tale of Two Central Illinois Artists

Learn how two very different Central Illinois artists used crops and livestock as their inspiration and elevated Midwestern agriculture to an artistic genre. Guest speaker Bill Kemp, Librarian of the McLean County Museum of History and ISHS Director, explores the unique personal lives and unconventional careers of these little known artists whose works were everywhere from mansions to magazines.

The first capital of Illinois will celebrate two big anniversaries on July 4: the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Kaskaskia’s capture from British forces during the American Revolution.
The free events take place at the Kaskaskia Bell State Memorial, home of the “Liberty Bell of the West,” which is now 276 years old. Activities include remarks by David Joens, director of the Illinois State Archives and Illinois State Historical Society board member; the tolling of church bells; music; appearances by historic interpreters; and more.
