The marker is located south of Milan on 10th Avenue West/Knoxville Road between 1st Street West and 4th Street West.
On May 8, 1832, while encamped approximately one mile west of this point, Abraham Lincoln was mustered into the military service of the United States. Captain Lincoln’s company was mustered into state service at Beardstown April 28, the day before beginning the march to this place by way of Yellow Banks or Oquawka.
